Porcelain Veneers

If you aren’t completely satisfied with your smile, there are different procedures that can instantly elevate both your smile’s aesthetic and self-confidence. One way to improve the appearance of your smile is by getting porcelain veneers from one of the best dentists in Chicago. Here’s how our team at Chicago Dental Solutions can help.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers, also called dental veneers, are made from wafer-thin shells that cover the front of your teeth. Each veneer is custom-made to fit the specific color, size, shape and length of your natural teeth. Porcelain veneers mimic the light-reflecting properties that natural teeth do, and they are highly stain-resistant. Once the veneers are placed, no one will be able to tell that they aren’t natural!

When to Use Veneers

There are a wide variety of situations that warrant the use of porcelain veneers, including:

> Severely discolored teeth – this may occur due to a root canal treatment, from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride treatment, or natural wear-and-tear

> Worn-down teeth that have lost their shape

> Misaligned, chipped, uneven or irregularly shaped teeth

> Teeth with gaps between them

The Procedure

Don’t rely on any dentist to perform such an important procedure. Our team is composed of some of the best dentists in Chicago that will make the process comfortable and answer your questions along the way.

Generally speaking, porcelain veneers take three separate visits before they are complete. The first visit is composed of a conversation discussing your goals, and a team member will look at your teeth to determine if you are a good fit for veneers.

The second appointment will help prepare your teeth, and one of our dentists will remove roughly ½ millimeter of enamel from the natural tooth surface to make room for the thickness of the veneer. Then, a model of your tooth will be made and sent to a dental laboratory so your veneer can be made. If necessary, our team can place temporary veneers until your custom veneers are ready.

The third and final step is the bonding process during which our team will cement the veneer to your tooth. We will remove any excess cement and adjust the veneer as necessary.

Advantages of porcelain veneers include a natural appearance, stain-resistance, and a conservative approach to improving your smile. Veneers are typically long-lasting as well, as they last anywhere from 7-15 years and they don’t require any special care.
