Three Tips to Ease Your Transition Into Invisalign

Published on July 29th, 2019

Have you finally decided that Invisalign in Chicago is right for you? This is a decision that you won’t regret, as it will result in a smile that makes you proud for a lifetime to come! The transition from your teeth being completely free of restrictions to wearing Invisalign may be difficult, but the following tips can help keep you comfortable.

Take an Anti-Inflammatory

When you first start wearing new aligners, you’ll notice that they feel tight around your teeth. This is your mouth adjusting to the aligners and it is completely normal. If you are sore to the point of being uncomfortable, try taking an anti-inflammatory before you put your new aligners in. This is a simple way to stay ahead of pain development.

Use Warm Water

Your mouth may be inflamed in certain parts, so swishing warm water around when you feel sore is a great way to reduce inflammation. For extra relief, you can add a little bit of salt to the water to help take down the inflammation even further. Make sure that you aren’t swishing extremely hot water in your mouth while you have your aligners in, as this could result in warping them accidentally.

Put New Sets in at Night

When you need to switch to a new Invisalign set, put them in for the first time at night, right before you go to bed. It is typically the first 10-12 hours while you are getting used to the aligners that you are the sorest, and most of this will be spent sleeping. You may wake up a little sore, but the majority of the soreness will have subsided by then.
