The Process of Getting Veneers

Published on September 13th, 2018

When it comes to the color, shape, size or length of your teeth, you may think you’re stuck with what you’re given. But our River North dentist knows that dental veneers are an ideal solution made of wafer-thin shells designed to cover the front surface of your teeth. With a few visits to the dentist, you can completely change the appearance of your smile.

Who is a Good Candidate for Veneers?

Discolored teeth, whether they’re from a previous root canal or natural wear and tear of everyday food and drink, can be hard to whiten. Veneers are a great solution to discolored teeth, as well as teeth that are worn down, chipped, broken or misaligned.

The Process

The first appointment with us will involve diagnosis and treatment planning. You will explain your desired results and a dentist will examine your teeth to see what your limitations are. You may also need X-rays or impressions at this appointment.

At your next appointment, our River North dentist will prepare your teeth for the veneers by removing half a millimeter of enamel from each tooth surface that is receiving a veneer. If you think you need a local anesthetic to numb the area, express that to your doctor before the procedure. Next, they’ll take an impression of your teeth and send it to a dental laboratory, so they can make the veneers.

Finally, the third appointment will consist of the bonding. The veneer will be permanently bonded to your tooth. Your dentist will trim and adjust the veneers as necessary, removing excess cement along the way as well.
